Batch coding questions

Batch coding enables you to search for all uncoded questions and code them together.

  1. Log in to the Clinical Coding module.

  2. Select File > Batch Code Responses. The Batch Code Responses window is displayed.

  3. Select the study with which you want to work.

  4. Select the site with which you want to work or select All Sites to include all sites in the selected study.

  5. Click Find Uncoded Questions. All uncoded questions with a response value are listed in the main area in one of two lists:

      • The Matched list shows questions whose response matches a decode in the associated medical dictionary.

      • The Unmatched list shows questions whose response does not match a decode in the associated medical dictionary.

  1. Review the decodes for any questions in the Matched list.

  1. Review the decodes for any questions in the Unmatched list.

  1. To save the decodes assigned to the questions in the Matched list, click Select All or just select the questions that you wish to save.

  2. Click Save Codes to Database. The coding status AUTOENCODED is assigned to all questions that originally appeared in the Matched list and are now coded. The coding status CODED is assigned to all questions that originally appeared in the Unmatched list and to all questions that have been manually re-coded from the Matched list.

The response text does not change colour when a question is batch coded from the list of matched responses but it does change from black to orange if a question is coded from the list of unmatched results or re-coded from the list of matched results.

Batch coding log

All batch coding activity is recorded in a log file. By default, this is InferMed.M40.Events.MACRO_CC.log but you can specify another file within the InferMed.M40.MACRO_CC.exe.config file.

To use batch coding, you need the 'Auto encode' permission

You can also code questions manually directly from an eForm.
